I am really excited about Canada Day this year. It looks like it is going to be a great event. Didn’t the guy on radio this morning say that it is going to be the best fireworks display this side of Toronto? I’m pumped.

140th BIRTHDAY SUNDAY
Canada Day in Kin Coulee Park July 1
Medicine Hat – There is plenty of free family fun in Kin Coulee Park this Sunday.
The Medicine Hat and District Canada Day Society hosts numerous attractions, events, displays and activities for the entire family this Sunday, July 1 at Kin Coulee Park starting at 7:30 a.m. with a free Lions Club Pancake Breakfast until 9:30 a.m. Entertainment at the pancake breakfast is provided by the Medicine Hat and District Live Music Club.
“Canada Day is a cornerstone event in Medicine Hat; it’s a major attraction for residents and visitors,” says Fred Paddock, Society Chair. “It takes hundreds of volunteers to make this one of the best events of summer.”
The official Opening Ceremonies happen at noon at the Bandshell. Master of Ceremonies Larry Godin will lead people in celebrating Canada’s 140th birthday with the singing of O’Canada and a Citizenship Court to welcome new Canadians.
Other activities happening throughout the park are:
- Ecumenical Service at the Bandshell from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
- Hayrides from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Displays and demonstrations featuring more than 15 exhibitors
- 13th annual Rhubarb Challenge
- 50-50 tickets available at the information booths
The Canada Day Society and volunteers from Eagles Nest Ranch invite everyone out to the Kidz Zone in the circle at Kin Coulee where there will be clowns and games, balloons and refreshing water fights, not to mention hours of fun in Jump World with five Jump Castles this year. The first 1,000 kids in Kidz Zone receive free balloons.
Check out the live entertainment throughout the day. The Youth Stage, a partnership with Kingland Developments, runs from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. and features performances by Ten Second Epic, The Evidence, and Seventh Rain. There is morning and afternoon entertainment at the Bandshell starting with the Medicine Hat College Girls’ Choir at 11 a.m. and ending with the Drew Darley Band at 5:15 p.m.

Then pitch a lawn chair or blanket at 5:30 p.m. for the 9th Annual Sandfly Festival. The Medicine Hat and District Canada Day Society in partnership with MY96 and CHAT 94.5 presents:
- The Travezty (Taber) – 5:30 p.m.
- Cold Shot (Medicine Hat) – 7:30 p.m., and
- Econoline Crush (Vancouver/Seattle) – 9:30 p.m.
Cap off Canada’s birthday with the spectacular fireworks at 11 p.m.
It’s easy to get to the events. Free shuttle buses will be traveling to Kin Coulee Park via two routes:
- Route #1 - From Southview Mall, 13 Avenue Co-op, Medicine Hat College to Kin Coulee Park.
- Route #2 - From Crescent Heights High School, Arena, Downtown Transit Terminal, Division Avenue Safeway to Kin Coulee Park.
